Forum Title: Double Hung Vinyl Window Repair - (New Shoes?)
I have been scouring the internet and this forum for how to repair two of my double hung vinyl windows. One window was broken when I moved in (two weeks ago), and the other seemed to break when I was cleaning it. They are broken the same way. They are tilt to clean. I'm not sure if I tilted it too far, but while cleaning, a metal part broke off the bottom sash (the shoe?). It looks as if the metal part was attached to the bottom side of the bottom sash and fit into a spring mechanism (spiral balancer?), which would ride up and down in the track. Seems as if I have to get some new shoes? Or whatever the things are called that ride in the tracks, and attach to the sash. Do I need a professional? Can I do it myself? If so, how? Some photos will follow. Thanks in advance!!! THE BOTTOM OF THE SASH W/O PIECE (SHOE) THE PIECE (SHOE) THAT BROKE OFF THE SPRING THE PIECE (SHOE) FIT INTO BROKEN PIECE (SHOE) IN THE SPRING MECH

Check with a local locksmith, I am sure they can help. I do not mean any big box store, and probably not a local hardware store. Look up 'locksmith' in yellow pages.
