Forum Title: Exotic exterior pivot door
Hello Everyone, My father-in-law was kind enough to give us a very ornate, hand-carved front door made in South Africa. It is a large door, designed to mount with a pivot assembly mounted on the top and bottom of the door (as opposed to a traditional hinged door). I live on a busy road so weatherstripping is a huge concern. How are pivot doors typically weatherstripped? As you might have guessed, I'm not very familiar with pivot doors in general so any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks, - Joe

I have used Gila film on windows before with good results. Now don't expect miracles with single paned glass. If an apartment, you may want to consult with the landlord to see if they can modify the windows to be more energy efficient.

Honestly, I have little confidence in the contractors in my area. Of the few contractors I've used over the past few years, in the end, I've felt I could do a better job myself. My father-in-law says he knows how to install it and weatherstrip it - he has installed quite a few of these doors, but not in the USA. I'm looking to see what SOP is here in case we run into any snags. My primary concern is noise infiltration. Thanks, - Joe
